A few days ago, I went to one of the county sheriff's departments to do the written test.
I was talking to one of the guys waiting to get checked in, and he had a pretty interesting story I wanted to share.
He's 45 years old and has been doing software engineering and development for most of his career, the past 20 years since he graduated college.
He said he had always thought of getting into law enforcement in some capacity, but he always made so much money working in software he never thought about making the switch seriously.
The past few years after getting laid off, he had been applying to different tech and software companies and just not hearing back.
He can't get hired anywhere.
He has done plenty of final round interviews, but he knew ageism was a problem.
He doesn't actually really need to work. He could probably figure out a way to retire and just do some consulting for the rest of his career.
He feels he still has some good working life left in him and he wants to take advantage of that.
A lot of the sheriff's departments and police departments around here don't have age limits, so he's decided to start applying and do what he actually wants to do for the rest of his working career.
I guess for him, it was a positive not being able to find another software position. He did say he feels kind of disappointed that his experience isn't valued now.
There's definitely a sweet spot between having enough experience and not being too old.
I told him there a lot of people that feel like he does right now and going through the same thing and feel the same way.
That includes me. I used to work in tech and now I got to figure out the next thing.
I just thought his story was an interesting tidbit and to share here for others.
I wished him best of luck on written test and hope he passed. I got notification today that I did pass this test, so we'll see what happens.
The 2 Deputy Sheriffs there at testing said they do get applicants in 40s and have sent some to the academy.
I know there's a lot of other software and tech people that have been laid off that are in a similar position trying to reconsider their careers.
Crazy what is going on out there in the job market.
Especially for men.
We don't get that same support structure when we lose our jobs as women.
FYI, I passed the test.
In the past, they just "kicked the can" down the road. That can is now filled with cement, and it ain't going nowhere.
Russell Brand faces up to life in prison based on the testimony of women, but it sounds more likely revenge for walking away from Hollywood and Left.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Lots of news topics to cover across the board but I think all are worth discussing.

A bit of a scattered video, but I want to address men and losing their emotional awareness, Fresh and Fit's fallout due to losing control of their emotions and how Rich Cooper from Entrepreneurs In Cars calls me out (in the correct logical way) and a response to that.
So you guys have various preferences for television night. Some are very obscure that I can't find for download so I'll have to dig a bit deeper, but leave a list and I'll snap as many as I can up. I'll likely need to get a larger hard drive at some point, but we can get started.

I could use your help. If you come across interesting content you'd like to see discussed and broken down, please post it below. We might get duplicates and things I may decide not to discuss, but it will help me find new ideas and perhaps new topics. Please stay away from horrible women raping or murdering, it's too depressing to really do content on; women suffering from bad decisions is of course certainly acceptable. Video compilations other creators do aren't my thing, but videos on YouTube or elsewhere from dimwitted women are perfect. Anything regarding ...
Good Evening, Gents!
I know everyone is still bummed about the elections. When I went to bed Tuesday night, I was in a red state. When I woke up, I was in a blue one. But I thought I'd share a reminder to pay attention to the small things. It was 80 here just a week ago & tonight, it'll be 32 (frosty). Leaves are changing color & falling. Because of all the rain we've gotten, there are some brilliant colors. The sun still rises & sets. The constellations are out & in season. There's a lot more going on than politics, government, society, social media, the internet, & etc. In fact, there's so much that isn't affected by all of that.
The Screech Owl is coming along, slowly, but surely. Oil pastels are so much easier to blend than colored pencils, but I have so much more control over colored pencil. The thing with backgrounds is that you want to create contrast (among other things). I'm trying to achieve that with a blue background intead of a heavily forested green. That might have worked, but if ...
